In 2000 she began her studies in the Moscow Institute of World Economics, but quit in favor of acting. From 2001 to 2005 she studied acting at the Shchukin Theatrical School of the Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow, where she attended the class of Nina Doroshina and Alekandr Lyubimtsev, graduating in 2005 as an actress.

In the first year of her study a famous Russian film director Stanislav Govorukhin saw her and invited for casting to film 'Bless the woman'. The role of the main herone, Vera was brilliantly performed by Svetlana Khodchenkova and brought her to the public eye. Despite the difficulty of the role (the actress had to play a woman at the age from 18 years and to 49), Svetlana managed to create an image of a real Russian woman who is capable of sacrificing love and devotion despite all he hardship of her life. For her role in film "Bless the woman" Khodchenkova received a nomination for the Nika Award, the oldest professional film award in Russia.

On December 13, 2005, she married her classmate, actor Vladimir Yaglych, and also took her husband's name, changing her name from Svetlana Khodchenkova to Svetlana Yaglych. The couple married on the 13th on purpose; because all their filming contracts were signed on the 13th, they believed that 13 would keep working as a good number for them. However, they have since divorced.

Outside of her acting profession, Svetlana is skilled in horse-back riding. She is also fond of winter sports, such as alpine skiing; she practiced her downhill in the ski resort of Kurshevel, France.
