Mariya Mironova

Mariya Mironova is a daughter of Yekaterina Gradova and Andrei Mironov, a legendary Soviet actor. She is also Granddaughter of Mariya Mironova and Aleksandr Menaker. Maria was born on 28 May, 1973.

She played her first role in the cinema being baby. This was Maria that radio-operator Kate, played by her mother Elkaterina Gadova was holding in the scenes of a famous Russian TV series "Seventeen Moments of Spring." Maria was named after her grandmother Maria Mironova.

The first full role in the cinema was a part of Becky Thatcher in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by the director Stanislav Govorukhin. Maria admits she was not fond of playing and felt quite scared and uncomfortable, yet her mother made a decision and the girl appeared to be performing the part of Becky. In the beginning of the 90th Maria became a student of Shchukin Theatrical School, which she had to later leave because of the birth of her son Andrew (named after the father). In 1993 she returned to Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. Since 1997, Maria has been working in the Lenkom Theatre.

The first role in the cinema was in Pavel Lungin'as romance "The wedding" where she played the part of Tanya with such stars of the Russian cinema as Marat Basharov, Andrew Painin, Natalia Kolyakanova. The film was got an award for the best cast in Cannes film festival.

Other bright films in Maria's career are "Oligarkh" (the Tycoon) by Pavel Lungin where she starred with Vadimir Mashkov, fantasy-thrillers "Nochnoy dozor" (Night Watch) and Dnevnoy dozor ("Day Watch") based on the novels of Sergei Lukyanenko and directed by Timur Bekmambetov, "Statskiy sovetnik" ("The State Counsellor") by Nikita Mikhalkov, parts in TV series "Gibel imperii" ("The Fall of the Empire") by Vladimir Khotinenko , "9 mesyatsev" ("Nine months") by Rezo Gigineishvili.

Being a popular actress Maria has not played in many films though. Probably due her true devotion to the theatre, she is not fast to accept cinema roles and has a motto "It's better less but better".

She received the title of Meritorious Artist of the Russian Federation in April 2007. In April 2007 she also received the national "Golden Mask" theatre award in the Best Actress category for her performance as Phaedra in the play "Phaedra: Golden Braid". Maria Mironova lives and works in Moscow.
