Her first world record was 77.06 metres, achieved on July 15, 2005 in Moscow, beating the old record of Mihaela Melinte by 0.99 metres. Her world record of 78.61m on May 26, 2007 was disqualified.
Lysenko returned to competition in July 2009, taking the Russian title with 76.41 m. She won the gold at the 2010 IAAF Continental Cup and ranked third in the inaugural IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge at the end of the year, with a combined score of 223.96 metres for her three best throws.
On Sept 4 2011 with a toss of 77.13 metres at her 3rd attempt Tatyana upset world record holder Betty Heidler to win the women's hammer at IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
