January 22, 1931: Galina Zybina, Russian female shot-putter and javelin thrower who won three Olympic medals was born.

Her fame rests primarily on eight consecutive world records in the shot put. However Zybina's very first award was a medal "For The Defence Of Leningrad".

Galina survived during the Seige of Leningrad, managed to recover and become and outstanding sports professional.
